Phony Launcher turns Treo 680 into iPhone UI look alike

Sammual of PalmAddicts is pretty happy running iPhony launcher on his Treo 680. The launcher looks pretty close to the user interface on the iPhone. Imitation is the best form of flattery. iPhony is available from the Brighthand forums.

Version info:

1- Version 0.2 now allows now to set each button to a app in our device. For instance the icon “Mail” can be linked to “SnapperMail” , “ChatterMail” or whatever. To access the “buttons setting” window, simply click on the top of the screen (as if you were trying to open a menu) and a list of the icons will appears. Each icon will have a pulldown menu listing all the app on your device. Simply choose one by icon. By default all the icon are set to “Launcher”. You can also access this setting window by clicking on the “menu” button on your device.

2- Version 0.2 also allows you to navigate around the icons using the 5-ways pad (blue ring).

3- I changed the icons a little bit. For instance I removed the “Weather” icon and replaced by “Notes” or Memo.

I am still working on the graphic quality and the 320×480.

Another iPhone UI look alike for Windows Mobile

As I mentioned in this previous post, imitation is the best form of flattery. While I use the Treo 750, which runs Windows Mobile, I won’t be installing this iPhone UI look-a-like on it. I prefer to wait for the real deal, thank you very much. Anyways, if you need to give this skin a go, make sure to have phoneAlarm for Windows Mobile 5 installed. Then head over to XDA-Developer website to download this skin. Ooops. By the time you read this post, the developer got a C&D to take the file down. Booo! iPhone Theme for your crappy Motorola RAZR

I don’t personally think that the Motorola RAZR deserves to wear the iPhone skin – period. The skin features icons such as Bluetooth connectivity, Safari launch, and phone launch. Just remember that installing a custom skin may void Motorola’s warranty. If you still want to do it, it’s available for you to download should you still want it.

Apple’s iPhone “Cover Flow” UI for your crappy MotoQ

There’s the iPhone copycat skin for the Motorazr, and now it looks like a bunch of smarty-pants at a Scottish company managed to duplicate the same UI right down to the effects, style and animation for the MotoQ. So they claim. The anonymous tip I got in went on to say that the animation isn’t done using Adobe’s “crappy Flash Lite,” and left it at that. You can browse and flip through the album with the 4-way navigation key.

So if this indeed true, how are they doing it? Anyone with more info, please email me.

Now, if it quacks like a duck and walk like a duck, is it a duck? Nope. I don’t care how similar the UI of another phone resembles the iPhone; it’s still not the iPhone.
