Some rumours just won’t go away. Last week we told you about the analysts reporting Vodafone, T-Mobile and Carphone Warehouse would announce an exclusive deal for a 3G iPhone in Europe at the beginning of this week well, Monday came and went and with no sign of an announcement (in fact Apple’s UK PR people, Bite, were apparently amused at the suggestion of anything being revealed) but the story prevails.
Now we’re told that, in honour of Apple likely being able to announce one million iPhone sales by Thursday, Steve Jobs will use that opportunity to unveil the 3G Euro version. As for the delay, rather than it being doubts over the iPhone’s popularity, sources are saying it all came down to legal juggling.
“What we’re hearing is that there was a contract drawn up in Germany; but that when Vodafone’s Newbury lawyers saw it, they said they weren’t signing a contract under German law, and it had to be re-drafted under UK legislation”
It’s a reasonable excuse, but then again they’ve had a couple of days to come up with it! We won’t have to wait long to find out if this new prediction comes true, at least; what will be tougher is the delay until the end of the year while people outside of the US look enviously on at all the iPhone fun to be had.
