The Virtual keyboard of Apple iPhone can delight, can call silent hatred, but all these rumors, keyboard testing, different typing speed tests, Youtube videos of fast typing, all this is really worth the Hype. Experts on usability from User Centric company, Chicago have compare traditional push-button keyboards of mobile devices with virtual keyboard of Apple iPhone. The comparison technique has appeared marvellously strange: have been selected twenty owners of different mobile devices: ten admirers of the QWERTY-keyboard and ten persons who have got used to the standard digital keyboard, from 20 guys no one holded Apple iPhone in his hands. Each of participants has received new Apple iPhone and six attempts to input text with the fixed quantity of symbols. It was found out, that the users who have got used to the QWERTY-keyboard type the typical text on iPhone twice longer, than on own gadgets (even after an hour of active use of Apple iPhone, typing speed doesn’t increased at all), but owners of phones with the usual digital keyboard have no advantages comparing to Apple’s communicator.

Thus the majority of participants have declared, that their fingers are too huge for virtual buttons of Apple iPhone, and ascertained, that even tall nails and manicure could become a serious problem for typing on iPhone. The average quantity of the mistakes made during input of the text on iPhone, almost four times exceeded the quantity of typing mistakes on a usual mobile phone - 11 mistakes on iPhone instead of three mistakes on a usual mobile phone.

I think the results of this testing are not correctly declared, User Centric has found out that typing speed on Apple iPhone is two times slower than on a QWERTY-keyboard, but i think that typing speed on mobile devices with QWERTY-keyboard is only half times faster than on Apple iPhone…
