According to Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster, Apple has reduced the price on iPhone for 200$ purposly to achieve triple increase of demand on this device.

He has found out that in Apple Store and AT&T shops, before reduction of price every day was sold about 9,000 devices. It has allowed the company to sell 594 thousand devices to September, 5th. We have to add to this number 270 thousand iPhone which was sold for the first few days, so it appears that from September, 5th till September, 9th to achieve a lond awaited mark in one million iPhones, Apple have sold 136 thousand devices. Or 27,000 iPhones per day. So iPhone sales has been increased exactly 3 times.
Certainly, in the next few days the situation will be stabilised, but Munster admits that the average sales volume will be stabilised on level of 14-15 thousand devices per day. It will allow Apple to sold around 1,28 million iPhones by the end of this quarter, and by the end of 2007 year to double this number.
With such sales amounts Apple can easily execute Jobs’s forecast - 10 million sold iPhones by the end of 2008.
