Yesterday Steve Jobs on a press conference in London has announced the start of European expansion of Apple iPhone.

What we know for this moment is that the device comes, at least, to Great Britain!

Its carrier becomes O2, and retail price of Apple iPhone will be 269 English Pounds it’s about 540$. Well, in USA the iPhone costs only 400$. Sales will begin on November, 9th, 2007! Well these are good news. And what about bad news.
Apple iPhone won’t support 3G, sorry - only EDGE and GPRS. Surprise? Yes. Especially if you try to remember, how much rumors have been recently released concerning iPhone’s 3G support.

And now some Steve Job’s answers on questions from press conference.

Question: So why not 3G?

Answer: “Communication 3G chipset is very gluttonous. Operational time of the device with it decreases till 2-3 hours. Our iPhone in conversation mode works 8 hours and it’s really important when you wish to use it also for music and the Internet. 3G should hold the charge for at least 5 hours. We expect to see it next year”.

From answers to other questions follows, that for iPhone’s users will be opened seven thousand free Wi-Fi access points from Cloud mobile carrier, activation will be made through iTunes player, and by the end of this month in Great Britain the mobile version of iTunes Music Store will released. Strange, but nobody has asked about other countries of Europe. What about them?

It is necessary to note, Jobs and O2 are very accurate when speak about money and sales amounts. So, on a question, how much iPhones they plan to sell in Great Britain, Matthew Key, the head of O2 company, has responded that to replace the mobile carrier will want 80 percent of high-end users.

Question about other Europe: What your further plans on start iPhone in Europe and how you will comment the discontent of some carriers, which did not suit your conditions?

Jobs: “We said, that we will be in the several countries of Europe. And we prefer to look through each case separately, which of these carriers suits better and which not…”

How to transform Steve Jobs into a stone wall? Just ask him: and you can say more concrete about iPhone’s release in other European countries?

Jobs: “We have come here to talk about O2 and it is everything about we wish to speak today”.
