The day before yesterday Google mail service Gmail has started IMAP support. What this IMAP support means for average Apple iPhone user? Now iPhone’s mail client called Mail addresses directly to the list of emails on Google server and works with emails remotely instead of downloading them. This essentially saves your traffic. Now I shall tell, how to activate and manage your Gmail account on your iPhone.

For this moment the Russian version of Gmail is not yet connected to IMAP, sorry.

Therefore, go into your inbox on Gmail.com >> Settings >> Change language on English (US). After you will see a new bookmark called Forwarding and POP/IMAP.

Now it is necessary to switch on POP and IMAP.

It’s time to make some adjustments in your Apple iPhone.
Press Settings >> Mail >> Add Account >> Other (not Gmail!!!)

Activate bookmark IMAP, it should become blue. Fill in obligatory fields Name and Address.

Outgoing Mail Server
Host Name: imap.gmail.com
User Name: your full email address on Gmail (for example, apple_iphone@gmail.com)

Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)
Host Name: smtp.gmail.com

Then press Save button (in the right top corner).

In Advanced bookmark check:

Incoming Settings
Use SSL: ON
Authentication: password

Outgoing Settings
Use SSL: ON
Authentication: Password

After that come back to Desktop >> Mail >> And check your Gmail account. You will spend 58Kb of traffic.

One Advice! When you have finished your work in Gmail - log out, this will save more traffic.
