Yesterday has been released very useful iPhone’s utility called iMapIdle. The main feature of this amazing utility is push-email support on your Apple iPhone. Probably, in Russia almost noone knows - What is push-email?, its because push-email is widely distributed only in USA.

All began from BlackBerry which have had embedded opportunity to receive push-mail. So what is push-mail? As we know, there are two ways to receive email from the server. The first and the simplest method is called “pull”. Using this method work almost all email clients on desktops, in this case email is updated compulsorily or using some schedule. Using push-email, all your emails are received in your post client or iPhone instantly after this email has been received by the server. Certainly, from only technical point of view there is no difference between these two methods: if you manage your pull-program to check email on the server every 1 second - here it is push-mail in action.

The brief description:

- This utility works in silent mode and waits until a new email message will appear on your IMAP account;
- After that it informs about new email through pop-up window or using a sound (it is possible to choose manually a sound file);
- This pop-up window allows you to check your inbox right now (IMPORTANT! Do not choose «Check Inbox Now», when you are in Mail). The pop-up window will disappear in 20 seconds. If you miss it, the number of received email messages will be displayed on iMapIdle icon;
- The utility supports SSL connections specially for GMail IMAP.

Installation:

- unzip iMapIdle.zip
- scp -r iMapIdle.app root@{iphone_ip}:/Applications
- restart springboard (ie: reboot phone or use customize to restart SpringBoard for you)
- should see a new iMapIdle icon. Click to setup iMapIdle options and to activate. Click home button to exit gui and iMapIdle should be running in background.

European iPhone starts are very very close - in UK sales will begin already tomorrow, and Frenchmen should wait till November, 29th.

But MacScoop informs, that exactly the French iPhone’s premiere should visit Steve Jobs personally. Probably, he will appear in new France Telecom shop which will be opened a day before the beginning of sales.

By the way, first of all Apple’s novelty will appear in France Telecom shops, instead of its division “Orange”. It means, that actually “Orange” trading network can remain for some time without Apple iPhone, we all understand that the demand on the iPhone will be considerable.

Any official information on iPhone plans in France is not present yet, and Frenchmen still do not know, how much they will spend for using of so popular Apple’s gadget with Orange. Information concerning all unlocked iPhones, which ostensibly should appear in France Telecom shops, is absent too. If you remember, French laws have not allowed Apple to bind iPhone users to one carrier of cellular communications. I am very curious, how this program will be realized and how Cupertino is going to prevent mass export of “Free iPhones” in other countries.

Open-source project “Funambol” (earlier known as Sync4j) now supports Apple iPhone. Those who used it, know, that this universal project for Palms and cell phones, allows to synchronize them among themselves and with a desktop.

Now you can synchronize your contacts “on-the-air”. Why this utility is so useful? For example, you have made a restore remotely from your Mac, where all your personal contacts are stored, and you need urgently to call someone - all you have to do is to start “Funambol” and sync it with your Mac under SyncML protocol.

The program has been released in 2 versions: Web-application and 3rd-party application. To install “Funambol” you have to manually add into Installer.app a repository http://www.funambol.com/iphone. And then to register your personal iphone-account in Funambol.
