www.geekmyride.org. Quick demo of accessing a web server linked to an Arduino in my RX-8 from an iPod Touch so it can be started, stopped, locked/unlocked, current location shown on Google Maps, and engine parameters displayed. More info at www.geekmyride.org

No, the web interface isn’t just open to the world! That would be crazy. It’s restricted access.

In the part of the video showing the computer you can see a huge black object just to the right. That’s a 28A/h deep-cycle sealed-lead-acid battery. Just above and left of the computer is a small black box which is an intelligent battery charger connected to accessory power. This is explained on the page about the car at Geek My Ride, linked from the video info.

Only thing is, anyone who can access the webspace for your car and just use the google map function to find your car, then take a laptop, phone w.e. to your car, unlock the car and steal it..

cool, but how is the electronics getting power? from the standard battery or do you have other batteries in the car to keep everything going when the car is off?

Yes, that’s correct, and that’s what I was trying to explain in the video and on the page about the car on the Geek My Ride site.

“controlled from the web” would be a more appropriate title. Any web-enabled device should be able to do this, if I’m understanding correctly? It doesn’t have to be an iPod Touch.

No, there’s nothing special about that iPod. I just used it in the video to run a browser to load the web interface being served by the computer in the boot. Keeping the web interface secure, now *that’s* the critical thing. It’s nothing to do with the iPod itself.

oh yea, and your ipod touch is now worth over $20,000 dollars.

don’t like it because first off, iphones/ipod touch are too expensive. second off, blackberry’s and sony phones can do the same thing and third your car is now more vunerable to be stolen now that you have the car keys and the ipod touch which acts like a key to your car. So… keeping your ipod now is very essential.

It’s got nothing to do with BlueTooth. How it’s done is all explained on the page about the car at the Geek My Ride site linked in the video info.

You can by pass the clutch with most remote starts. You have to buy the by pass module seperate, and most shops won’t put them in where im from. You can DIY though.

To the guy that said they kill ppl with r/c airplanes now. by they he means ‘american goverment/elite’ and its nothing new theyve been doing this for ages, even since pearl harbour days when they bombed themselves to provoke a war that would go on to generate 125 billion dollars for the rockerfeller family.
